Gait in Dancers
Title: Gait in Dancers
On this episode, we interview Dr. Laurel Daniels Abbruzzese, who is a professor in Columbia University’s Program of Physical Therapy. Before going into the profession, she trained as a dancer at Alvin Ailey and continues to be involved with the performing community in and around NYC. Dr. Abbruzzese is a part of the Performing Arts Special Interest Group Description of Advanced Specialty Practice revalidation team with the APTA. She is an expert on gait and postural control among many other things which will give us great insight for dancer injury prevention in today’s discussion.
Our mission: On Physiotherapy Performance Perspectives (PPP), Jenna and Marissa interview Physical Therapists who specialize in and love treating performing artists. In this monthly podcast, we aim to help performing artists gain a better understanding of how their body works, how to reduce risk of injury, what Physical Therapy for performing artists entails, and how to maximize performance potential.
