Communication in Dance Education
Title: Communication in Dance Education
On this episode, Joan Liu was interviewed. Joan started her performing career with Taipei Royal Ballet in 2002. She later pursued academics receiving her MS in biology from New York University specializing in neuroscience and MA in dance education through the collaborated program between NYU and American Ballet Theatre on scholarship, where she got certified in all levels of ABT’s National Training Curriculum from pre-primary to level 7 and partnering. The two degrees together contributed to Joan’s approach of creating space for artistic freedom while firmly grounded in scientific precisions. Joan has taught as adjunct professor at NYU, as ballet mistress for Arch Contemporary Ballet, as yoga and BarWorks instructor at YogaWorks among many others as well as privately coached numerous students to acquire scholarships and professional contracts. Joan completed 500hr yoga teacher training with YogaWorks, Pilates mat with Equinox, and other movement/fitness teacher trainings. Currently, Joan teaches ballet, pointe, and yoga at Ballet Arts; is on faculty as well as dancer and resident choreographer at American Liberty Ballet while performing with Aries in Flight (jazz/theatre), and Gwen Rakotovao Company (contemporary/modern).
