On this episode, Tina Thompson was interviewed. Tina Thompson (Staten Island, New York) began her training at LIDAKA Dance Company. She then studied at the Alvin Ailey and the Martha Graham Schools of Dance as a merit scholarship. Tina was the first choreographic award recipient for the Welcome back to Brooklyn festival at 17 years of age. As well as being one of the youngest choreographers to ever receive this award she was an ACT-SO Scholarship recipient for 'DEPTHS OF AGONY'. Alumni of the Erasmus Performing Arts High School and Academy of the Arts (from where she graduated early with honors), she went on to the world prestigious and infamous Juilliard School of dance. She was received a full Irving Ruckens Scholarship at age 17 BFA Program). She was chosen as a lead dancer in the Juilliard Cross Cultural tour. by Maria Grandy. She was given a distinguished professional training scholarship at the Dance Theatre of Harlem while attending The Juilliard School of the Arts. She has trained with Bessie Elmer, Walter Raines, Alfredo Corvino and Loel Smith. She has performed at City Center, Metropolitan Opera House, Alice Tully Hall, Symphony Space, Ailey CitiGroup Theatre, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, throughout Romania and Russia.

Tina continued her masters degree studies at LIU Brooklyn Campus in Exercise Physiology. Tina has taught dance for the Brooklyn Arts council and A.S.P.I.R.A. She has been an award recipient for the National Endowment of the Arts in Dance. Tina has served as a dance captain for Long Island University Cheerleading and Pep-Squad’s and is a former Professional AFL and NBA cheerleader herself. She has worked with many Modern dance pioneers such as Anna Sokolow and Ethel Winters.

Mrs. Thompson is a 2009 Excellence in the Arts /COASHI DCA Art Fund Grant Recipient for (Choreography Awards)- 'ECCENTRICA- THE SKIN PROJECT" & SUMMERFEST 2009 for her renown piece entitled ROB. Her extensive background in Contemporary dance gives her the edge that is needed in today’s ever growing world of fitness. Currently she is in the studio working on her newest premiere Jungian Fruits and Sacred Places Project for the SKIN 2019 season. Her newest work will be presented for the HATCH Project with Jeniffer Muller/ The Works for this Spring Season 2019.

Tina is a certified group fitness professional, pilates instructor, personal trainer and exercise movement Therapist in New York City. She helps spread her knowledge by teaching workshops and directing her dance theater and fitness events throughout the city. She has contributed to many charities and organizations with great causes for children and adults. Tina loves sharing her knowledge and skills with the dance and fitness communities. Tina has been the director of SKIN- The Tina Thompson Dance Co. for the past 14 years and working to produce a Broadway show/Vegas production in the near future. Her focus for the year ahead is to challenge herself choreographically, breaking the boundaries of movement and fusing the worlds of Theatre, Dance and Fitness. Tina is grateful and thankful for her many great passages and life learned lessons.
